Another DRM Audio/Visual Launch

Amazon’s movie download site, called Unbox, appears to have gone live last night/yesterday with the following quote on their front page:

While the technosphere has been buzzing about Apple’s expected movie download launch next week (see previous post ), Amazon beat Apple to the punch by unveiling its own movie download store today– Amazon Unbox

Starting at $9.99 and up, there is heavy DRM and the videos must be watched from a Windows PC. Odd that they lock out geeks on Linux. I’m sure it will be hacked up within the next week or so.

I’ll have another story up about Digital Rights Management (DRM) within a day or so. I’ll explain why I don’t own an iPod or the fact that I will not download music and video from these types of websites. Yes, I did just say that I might be the only geek without an iPod…
